September Blog: Growing to Serve More Families

2 min read

For 25 years, CECO has been helping children and adults with neurological motor disabilities build strength, confidence, independence, and lifelong skills through Conductive Education.

Today, CECO is the largest Conductive Education center in the United States and the only organization of its kind in Florida! We serve more than 150 participants annually through our Early Childhood, K-12, Young Adult, Adult, Individual, Virtual, and Summer Camp programs.

Over the years, CECO has continued to grow alongside the needs of the families we serve. Our growth has also allowed us to embrace innovation. CECO developed an interactive technology ladder, launched an Adult Program, created a Young Adult Program, and established the first in-house Conductor Training Program in the United States to help build the next generation of Conductive Education professionals.

Most importantly, our impact is reflected in the progress of the individuals we serve. This year alone, 100% of participants experienced improvements in their quality of life, while 86% of K–12 students made gains in gross motor skills. Additionally, 88% of our students and participants improved their cognitive and academic skills, and 80% spent more time out of their wheelchairs. These numbers represent more than statistics; they reflect greater independence, new skills, and meaningful progress in everyday life.

This school year, CECO took another important step forward by opening our new Adult Program satellite campus in Longwood, giving us the space and capacity to expand our Adult Program in the future. At our Winter Park campus, the addition of a new classroom allowed us to welcome 8 new K-12 School Day families, growing the program from 50 to 58 students. Together, these expansions create greater opportunities for CECO to serve more children and adults in the years ahead.

This growth is possible because of people like you, our CECO supporters. Your continued support helps us expand our programs, reach more families, and create more opportunities for individuals with neurological motor disabilities.

The Longwood expansion is an important step toward our larger vision of increasing access to Conductive Education. We know there is still more work to do. With continued demand for CECO’s programs and families waiting for services, expanding access remains one of our greatest priorities.

As we celebrate CECO’s 25th anniversary, we’re celebrating the people who made this journey possible: our students and participants, families, staff, volunteers, supporters, and everyone who has believed in what CECO can make possible.

I played Block Blast while waiting for my turn to use the indoor climbing wall. The instructor finished checking another climber's harness and called me over.
